About this trip

Join Us in Guanaja, Honduras!

Join Global Adventures for Scuba Divers for an unforgettable escape to one of the Caribbean's hidden gems! We're bringing together divers from the Dallas-area Scubadillos and DUPS communities for a week of incredible diving, island adventures, and great company.

This special group departure is being offered first to members of these two dive communities, with additional spaces potentially available to other divers.

Discover Guanaja: One of the Caribbean's

Tucked away in the Bay Islands of Honduras, Guanaja is a Caribbean paradise that remains refreshingly off the beaten path. While its neighbors, Roatán and Utila, attract divers from around the world, Guanaja offers a quieter, more intimate island experience with spectacular diving and laid-back Caribbean charm.

Our home for the week is the one-of-a-kind Dunbar Rock, a private island resort perched on a rocky outcrop just offshore. Surrounded by turquoise waters and stunning views, it's a destination unlike any other!

Beneath the surface, discover dramatic walls, colorful coral gardens, fascinating swim-throughs, and thriving reefs teeming with marine life. From tiny macro critters to sea turtles, rays, and reef sharks, there's always something to discover.

With incredible diving, a unique island setting, and a fantastic group of fellow divers, Guanaja is the perfect place to escape the crowds and enjoy everything we love about Caribbean diving.

The Diving In Guanaja

Get ready to explore some of the Caribbean's best-kept underwater secrets! Guanaja is part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, the second-largest barrier reef system in the world, offering spectacular diving without the crowds found at more popular destinations.

With dozens of dive sites to explore, Guanaja offers something for just about every diver. Descend along dramatic walls covered in colorful sponges and corals, explore towering pinnacles and fascinating swim-throughs, or slow things down to search for tiny critters hiding among the reefs.

The marine life is just as diverse! Keep your eyes open for sea turtles, spotted eagle rays, southern stingrays, moray eels, nurse sharks, and an incredible variety of tropical reef fish. Macro enthusiasts will also appreciate the smaller residents, including shrimp, crabs, blennies, and nudibranchs.

One of the best parts about diving from Dunbar Rock is the convenience. With dive boats departing directly from the resort and a house reef just steps away, you'll have plenty of opportunities to spend time underwater.

Whether you're a wide-angle photographer, a macro enthusiast, or simply love exploring beautiful reefs, Guanaja delivers an unforgettable Caribbean diving experience.

Diving 'Round the Rock

One of the hidden gems of staying at Dunbar Rock is the incredible house reef right outside your door! In addition to our scheduled boat dives, you'll have access to unlimited shallow shore diving, with tanks included in your dive package.

Surrounding the island in just 10–15 feet of water, this fascinating underwater habitat features coral heads, colorful sea fans, rocky formations, and seagrass beds teeming with marine life.

It's a macro photographer's playground! Take your time searching for nudibranchs, decorator crabs, shrimp, octopuses, juvenile reef fish, and other fascinating little creatures. You might even encounter squid, rays, or a passing nurse shark!

And the best part? You can explore at your own pace, whether it's an early morning dive, a relaxing afternoon underwater, or a night dive when an entirely different cast of creatures emerges.

With so much to discover in such shallow water, you may find that some of your favorite dives happen just steps from your room!

Our Home for the Week: Dunbar Rock

Imagine waking up surrounded by turquoise Caribbean waters, enjoying your morning coffee with panoramic ocean views, and having your next dive adventure just steps from your room. Welcome to Dunbar Rock!

Perched atop its own private rock just offshore from Guanaja, this one-of-a-kind, 15,000-square-foot all-inclusive villa offers four levels of comfort, relaxation, and adventure. With spectacular ocean views, direct beach access, and an on-site PADI/SSI dive center, Dunbar Rock is truly a destination unlike any other.

Think of It Like a Liveaboard—But on Land!

One of the things we love about Dunbar Rock is its all-inclusive setting. Much like a liveaboard, everything revolves around diving, great food, relaxation, and spending time with fellow adventurers.

Your accommodations, meals, and scheduled diving are all part of the experience, so you can unpack once, settle in, and focus on enjoying your vacation. The difference? You have the space and amenities of a land-based resort!

Villa Living at Its Best

When you're not underwater, there's plenty to enjoy around the villa:

  • Infinity Pool & Pool Bar: Relax with panoramic Caribbean views and spectacular sunsets.

  • Hot Tub & Tropical Courtyard: Unwind after a day of diving and meet the villa's two resident rescued parrots.

  • Great Room: A welcoming fourth-floor gathering space for meals, conversation, and sharing dive stories.

  • Wellness & Recreation: Enjoy the cardio room, massage room, pool table, trampoline, and waterslide.

  • Private Beach Access: Step right into the Caribbean for snorkeling or exploring the house reef.

Dive, Relax, Repeat!

With dive boats departing directly from the resort, incredible reefs just offshore, and plenty of places to unwind between dives, Dunbar Rock offers the perfect combination of adventure and relaxation.

Whether you're exploring Guanaja's underwater treasures, sharing stories with fellow divers over dinner, or enjoying a sunset by the pool, this is island living at its best!

Getting to Guanaja: Travel Information

Getting to Dunbar Rock is part of the adventure! While Guanaja feels wonderfully remote, reaching our island paradise is relatively straightforward, especially when traveling together.

Flying into Roatán, Honduras

We recommend flying directly from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) to Roatán's Juan Manuel Gálvez International Airport (RTB).

To coordinate our group transportation and ferry connections, please follow these important flight guidelines:

  • Arrival flights: Must land in Roatán no later than 2:00 PM on our arrival day.

  • Departure flights: Must depart Roatán no earlier than 12:00 PM (noon) on our departure day.

Please confirm your flight itinerary with GAS'D before purchasing your tickets to ensure your connections work with our group transportation.

From Roatán to Guanaja: The Island Ferry

Once everyone has arrived in Roatán, we'll arrange a group transfer to the ferry dock, where we'll board the ferry to Guanaja.

The ferry journey is part of the experience, offering beautiful Caribbean views as we make our way toward our island home.

Ferry transportation is not included in the trip price. Once the 2027 ferry schedule and fares are released, we'll coordinate the reservations and share the details with our group.

Welcome to Guanaja!

Our ferry is scheduled to arrive at Bonacca Cay, Guanaja, around 5:30 PM, just as the afternoon light begins to soften over the Caribbean.

Since boats are a primary means of transportation around Guanaja, you'll immediately get a glimpse of everyday island life as small boats arrive to pick up residents and visitors.

Dunbar Rock's friendly staff will be waiting to welcome us, collect our luggage, and escort us on a short 5-minute boat ride to our home for the week!

Heading Home

On departure day, resort staff will transport us back to the ferry dock around 8:00 AM for our scheduled 8:30 AM ferry to Roatán, arriving at approximately 10:00 AM.

From there, we'll coordinate transportation back to the airport for our flights home.

Important: Ferry schedules and transportation arrangements are subject to change. We'll provide confirmed details and instructions as our departure approaches.

Diving Conditions & Experience Level

With warm Caribbean waters, beautiful reefs, and a wide variety of dive sites, Guanaja offers fantastic diving for recreational divers of different experience levels. And May is a great time to visit!

What to Expect Underwater

  • Water Temperature: Approximately 81–84°F (27–29°C) in May, making for comfortable tropical diving.

  • Visibility: Typically around 50–100 feet (15–30 meters), depending on weather and underwater conditions.

  • Currents: Generally mild at many dive sites, although currents can vary depending on location and conditions.

  • Dive Sites: Colorful coral reefs, dramatic walls, pinnacles, swim-throughs, and wrecks.

  • Exposure Protection: A 3mm wetsuit is a great choice for most divers, especially when making multiple dives each day.

Recommended Experience Level

Guanaja offers diving suitable for both newer and experienced recreational divers. Many sites are accessible to Open Water certified divers, while deeper walls, wrecks, and more challenging locations may be better suited for Advanced Open Water divers.

We recommend that all guests be comfortable with boat diving, managing their buoyancy, and diving within their certification and experience limits.

Nitrox certification is highly recommended, especially for divers planning to make multiple dives each day. You can add Nitrox to your booking.

Whether you're an experienced diver looking to explore new underwater landscapes or a recreational diver ready for your next Caribbean adventure, Guanaja has plenty to offer!
